Hello and welcome to our 3rd and 4th Class Blog. Here you will be able to see all wonderful things we get up to in New Inn N.S! Enjoy. 😁 Please note, the most recent post is the latest one, so scroll down to see some older ones.
In Literacy, we looked at the recount of the story of Icarus and his journey that took him too close to the sun. We were so fortunate to be treated to a performance of the story by some of our 3rd class pupils who took it upon themselves to put on a show for the rest of us. Check out a small snippet of their work below. Well done all.
In Art, we tried to show our new teacher what goes on inside our heads. Can you guess some of our interests? Check out some of our groovy designs.
In Maths, we had a look at what numbers are important to us in our lives and created a puzzle out of them. You can see a few of them here.
We are so lucky to have welcomed some of the players from various Galway and Sarsfields camoige teams to our school and get a few snaps with them and their well deserved silverware. In the hall, we joined up with 5th and 6th and heard all about how to get better at our passions in life. Well done girls and can't wait for you to bring them back again next year!
We are so fortunate here in New Inn to have a brand new playground situated next to our school and on Friday we took full advantage. It will be the first of many visits. Thank you to all who make the playground possible!
We went to Lough Key Forest Park for our school tour. The tour at the start of the day was really interesting and we got to use the servants' tunnels from the old house and go up in to the lookout tower, it's REALLY high up! After a quick trip to the gift shop we headed into Boda Borg to challenge ourselves mentally and physically to get through all of the different rooms. It was tricky at first but, when we worked in our teams, we found our way through lots of them.
We absolutely loved celebrating World Book Day. As you can see some of us have similar taste in books.
We are all very enthusiastic readers and love the opportunity to Drop Everything And Read!
Yesterday we celebrated Grandparents' Day in our school. After the prayer service, some of our grandparents came to visit us in our classroom. We took the opportunity to interview some of them, we were eager to find out what their lives were like when they were our age. We also played games including chess, jenga and 25. It turns out that a lot of our grandparents are very good at 25 and were not inclined to let us win! We had a great day and loved having these special visitors in our class!
We had so much fun during science week. We spent the week researching and experimenting at home. On Friday we brought in our experiments and showed them to the class. We had fun with colours, mixtures, magnets and the classic Diet Coke and Mentos!
At the beginning of November we had a visit from Ben, from Drumadore. We had so much fun during our workshop. We learned to play drums while standing still, while dancing, while spinning around and more. We even created our own drumming dance moves!
The children enjoyed making jelly in small groups to explore the different states of matter.
The children enjoyed working together in groups to draw an aerial map of our school.
Rinne na páistí drámaí don rang.
We have been very busy learning in the 3rd and 4th class room. We created fixed-pulleys in Science, it was lots of fun exploring the various materials we could use to lift a box of cards. The children have been using the new Primary Maths Curriculum and engaging in hands-on, open-ended Maths activities. In Art we explored warm/cool tones and created reflections.
Our School Tour 2024
We headed to Shannon River Adventure this year for our school tour. Kayaking, pier jumping, archery, rock climbing and a mud slide were just some of the activities the children participated in. We had an absolutely brilliant day and hopefully, we will be back again!
Loughrea School & Office Supplies Art Competition
The children of 3rd & 4th class took part in an art competition ran by Loughrea School & Office Supplies. The time and care that went into their creations was magnificent. Well done to you all 👏
Gardening Time
We have been busy out gardening over the last few weeks with the aid of Elaine & Catriona.
We have planted potatoes, peas, onions, carrots and strawberries and can't wait to see them grow.
Some of us forgot our wellies so we improvised with our new 'fashion forward' boots!
Congratulations to Jessica & all at Kiltullagh Pioneers on their u-11 Cup win in Eamon Deacy Park. There was great excitement in school when Jessica brought in the cup!
Check out some of the wonderful activities we have completed in maths over the last few weeks ➡️➡️
We bid farewell to Ms. Donoghue after a wonderful few weeks of having her in our classroom and co-teaching with Ms. Porter.
We wish her well on the rest of her studies and we hope she comes back to us again some day!!
♻️ GLOBE River Ecosystem Campaign ♻️
Before Easter, we headed down to our local river with Ms. Porter and Mrs. Davis as part of the ‘GLOBE River Ecosystem Campaign’. We tested the river’s pH, temperature and for chemicals present in the water. This is part of an overall project in collaboration with our Green Schools’ Committee in combatting pollution in our locality!
Write-A-Book Project
We are finally moved in to our new classroom!
After 5 fantastic weeks, we bid farewell to the wonderful Ms. Lohan!
