Two weeks ago, 5th and 6th class went to the Celtic Explorer, which was docked in the Galway Docks.
The Celtic Explorer is a multi-purpose research vessel which came into service in 2003 and is designed for fisheries acoustic research, oceanographic, hydrographic and geological investigations. At 65.5m in length, the vessel can accommodate 35 personnel, including 20-22 scientists.
On the ship we met Vera who was in charge of seabed mapping , Glen who was one of the many scientists on board the ship, Craig who showed us different shipwrecks they found on the seabed and the captain Denis Rowan who showed us the different controls to steer the ship.
