Supporting individuals with autism through uncertain times

AFIRM have published this very practical and useful document outlining strategies/ activities for the support of individuals with autism during the Covid-19 pandemic. Parents you may find some useful ideas here. 

NEPS

The Department of Education and Skills’ NEPS psychologists have developed advice and some resources for young people to manage and stay well when schools are closed. 

NEPS psychologists have also developed guidance for parents supporting children to create new routines at home.  Having a Plan for the Day is key for children/young people to manage and stay well at this time. As this can be a very anxious time for children, some useful relaxation techniques for children are included.

NSCE

The NCSE (National Council for Special Education) have developed some useful online resources for parents of children with Special Education Needs. These resources include class based tips, Occupational Therapy resources and Speech & Language resources which you may find useful during school closures. Click on the link below to access.

Social Stories

Social Stories are a very useful means of explaining social events/occurances to children with special educational needs.
