Welcome to 5th and 6th class!!!
To deepen our knowledge of ocean conservation, we headed to the Galway Docks on Friday last for a tour of the Celtic Explorer Vessel. Ran by the Marine Institute, the Celtic Explorer is the largest state-owned research vessel. We met with the captain of the vessel and some of the marine scientists that work on board. It was a great experience.
Our 5th & 6th class students got to sample some Hot Food Meals and we hope they’ll be introduced to our school soon!
The meals were both nutritious and delicious and they enjoyed tasting a variety of healthy options.
Our school had four teams in each quiz this year , two for 3rd and 4th and two from 5th and 6th.
The first quiz we went to in St Brigid’s College where Kilchreest NS organised an amazing quiz for local schools.
A week later we went to the Credit Union Quiz in Ballinasloe in the Emerald Ballroom. It was a great experience and all teams did very well in both quizzes.

We had a lot of fun together as a class in putting this project together! We will soon send a link for you to watch our movie.

ESB Science Blast
5th and 6th class are participating in this year's ESB Science Blast programme. We devised the following research question which we are currently investigating:
"Will my resting heart rate decrease as I become fitter?"
Every day we record our resting heart rate using pulse oximeters. In order to increase our fitness levels, we walk a specified distance on the walking track every day. Our walk is timed and we strive to improve on this every day. As our walking time and hence fitness levels improve, we will analyse if there is a potential correlation between our improving fitness levels and our resting heart rate.
All data gathered is recorded in our daily log charts. This will later be transferred into our bar chart and line graph templates where we can analyse our findings and prepare to present these at the ESB Science Blast exhibition!
Keep an eye on our "latest news" section to keep up to date with our progress!
5th and 6th class enjoying their time in our recently redecorated library.
